Joplin - Vinita
Today´s ride was supposed to take us to Vinita in Oklahoma. Yet our stopby was shorter than expected. 45min to be precise. At subways. Gotta luv that place.
The weather couldn´t have been better for riding, and we got along super quick, leading to a little race between Berni and me that resulted in a new avg. speed record of 25.50 km/h without tailwind! Reaching Vinita in less than 4 hours we decided to carry on, pimping our daytrip to a 156km race across Oklahoma. A race dignified enough to crush the 3000km benchmark all in one go! Felt great!
As we wanted to avoid a night-ride, we decided not to shoot for Tulsa and stopped in a small town called Claremore. Not much to do or see at the first sight. Yet as so often it was the people that turned the stopover into a nice memory: As there was no diner or restaurant around we went to a nearby gas station to grab some carbs. Unlike in Austria, US gas stations offer an epic amount of food and drinks. In our case they even had a little Pizza-stand inside. I started chatting with the lovely lady working behind the counter, which soon turned into a lively conversation about our project and her dream of crossing the United States with one of her horses. After we concluded that she is definitely crazier than we are, the entire night shift crew gathered and decided to buy us pizza! Bingo!
Thanks Manda, Wanda and Tanner! U rock, Big Time!
