Baltimore - Washington DC
After a nice night out with our hosts, thank you again Jenn and Scott, we got ourselves a nice american breakfast (once again Berni was in 7th heaven), had a quick walk at the harbour and then headed towards Washington DC. We mostly had to use the highway again (bad air, but at least a nice biking lane) yet could enjoy some neat subsections using differenet trails close to DC.
Especially one section of this trip was remarkable. In the town of College Park we suddenly felt as if we were riding along Donauinsel in Vienna. A nicely paved trail through a big park, a lot of cyclers and runners. Some lakes and the river we rode along were just astonishing beautiful. We arrived safely at Washington DC, having cracked the 500km barriere, or to be precise, 500km and 110m.
We will be here for 2 nights, to have a look at the white house, national mall, national cathedral and so on. It is the first major break after 5 days of riding. So far no major issues, our legs are still doin pretty fine, the will to achieve our goal is even stronger!
This motivational high is also a result of all those people we have met during our trip so far. The very first reaction in their face is always fascinating to watch. It is a kind of disbelieve and interest - but in a very positive way! For us it is amazing to finally realize our 5499km project and we hope to collectively reach the minimum sponsoring-goal of €5499 (a broad hint: a few daytrips are still available and waiting to be sponsored).
